This Chocolate Fondue with Fruit comes together in just 30 minutes with 5 simple ingredients for a delicious dessert that has a way of making even the most ordinary of days feel extra special.

    this recipe

Fondue was popular in America in the 1960s and 1970s. Most homes had a fondue pot and enjoyed this method of lingering at the table around a small pot full of chocolate or cheese while dunking their dippers and grazing. These days, most homes probably don't have their own fondue pot, so I've used an easy alternate method for this recipe of melting the chocolate in a small slow cooker.

If you like Chocolate Fondue with Fruit, you'll love some of my other easy chocolate desserts such as S'mores in the Oven or Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars.

    Ingredients

Here's what you need to make Chocolate Fondue with Fruit:

    • semi-sweet chocolate chips
    • heavy cream
    • strawberries
    • pineapple
    • bananas

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

Here's how to make Chocolate Fondue with Fruit:

Add the heavy cream and chocolate chips to a greased slow cooker, stirring to combine. Cook on high for 30ish minutes, stirring intermittently, until the chocolate is melted.

While the chocolate melts, cut the pineapple, slice the bananas and cut the ends off of the strawberries. (See this article for tips on how to cut a pineapple.)

Once the chocolate is done, either remove from heat and serve immediately or turn to warm and keep warm until serving.

Serve melted chocolate on a platter with a spoon surrounded by the sliced fruit. Give each guest a plate and a fork and let them serve themselves.

Hint: If you don't have a small slow cooker, you can melt your chocolate in a small saucepan over medium heat. Just watch it closely and stir it often while it is melting.

    Substitutions

Want to substitute an ingredient in Chocolate Fondue with Fruit? Here's how:

    • Semi-sweet chocolate chips - use an equal amount of dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips in place of the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
    • Heavy cream - use an equal amount of milk or milk alternative such as coconut milk in place of the heavy cream.
    • Fruit - if fruit isn't your thing, serve graham crackers, marshmallows and pretzels with your chocolate fondue for dunking.

    Variations

Try one of these variations of Chocolate Fondue with Fruit:

    • Nuts- add ¼ cup chopped nuts to your finished fondue immediately before serving for extra texture.
    • Boozy - add 3 Tablespoons of bourbon, Kahlua or Bailey's to your chocolate fondue immediately before serving for an extra touch.

    Equipment

This equipment comes in handy when making Chocolate Fondue with Fruit:

    • measuring cups
    • small slow cooker
    • knife
    • cutting board

    Storage

Store leftover chocolate fondue in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

    FAQ

What fruit is good in chocolate fondue?

Strawberries, pineapple and bananas are the most common fruits used for dipping in chocolate fondue but apples, pears, cherries, kiwis, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries would be delicious also.

What goes well in chocolate fondue?

Most fruits pair well with chocolate fondue, particularly strawberries, pineapple, bananas, apples, pears and cherries. Graham crackers, marshmallows and pretzels are also great for dunking in chocolate fondue. Cookies, bites of cheesecake and chunks of brownie are all delicious when drizzled with a touch of chocolate fondue as well.
